What is Aigaion?

Aigaion has been developed as a web based application for collecting and maintaining a shared, annotated bibliography. It allows one to collect bibliographic references, organize them using a topic hierarchy, annotate them with notes, make (parts of) the database available publicly, and flexibly (dis)allow access to individual objects for registered users and guests. An extensive list of features can be found on the Features page.

Why?

Aigaion started as a joint project of several PhD students who were all searching for methods on how to manage the publications one reads while doing research. The bibliography management programs we found were not able to satisfy our needs so we decided to build our own. Aigaion is an open-source project, anyone may adapt it to his/her personal needs. If you are missing some important feature or would have done something totally different, please consider to write us an email or make a feature request on our issue tracker.

Who?

The two main developers of Aigaion 2 are currently DennisReidsma and WietseBalkema. They are supported by a host of users reporting bugs and requesting features, but also by many active users suggesting solutions to problems and contributing code for extensions.

Users?

There are quite a few installations of Aigaion out there, with or without public access. A list of known public repositories can be found at the page KnownUsers.

Donations

Dennis and Wietse actually spend quite a lot of their free time on developing and maintaining Aigaion. As it is a tool that we need very much for our own work, this is not a problem. Also, it is very rewarding to see so many happy users and so many active Aigaion web sites.

Nevertheless, from several sides we have received the question whether we would accept donations as a token of appreciation for our development work. And to be honest: we feel flattered, and will not say 'no'. Information about how to donate, and about who will benefit, can be found on the page Donations.

Thanks

We would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who supports Aigaion, and to those other OS systems that we can make use of. The incomplete list of acknowledgements can be found at the Thanks page.

Thank you!
